Kingdom Characters:
Basil Palagious (Faction Leader)
Age: 36
Battle Scarred
The character's long and gruesome history in combat has led to the unnerving characteristic of being unsavory to the eye. His battlescars have made him, in any non-military capacity a very strange and unsightly presence.
* Character has decreased chances of winning administrative chances and greater chances of winning war traits.
Great Strategist

The son of Emperor Theodosius IV, Basil did not lead a pampered life in the city of Lygos but instead for much of his life followed his father on military campaigns on the ravaged Ezrian frontierlands in full military costume that his mother made for him from battle to battle. He was dubbed with the nickname 'little boots' by his fathers soldiers, but it wouldn't be until his early twenties when Basil would grow out of his father's imposing shadow. In the year 168, Amorium and large parts of the interior of the Empire rose up in revolt, lead by an ambitious army General named Sekaris. At the time, Ezria was involved in a series of long and bloody border wars with the Surud, Kantach, and the Murdok who frequently raided the coastline.

Plotting to turn his enemies against eachother, Theodoisus gained the Kantach as mercenary allies in exchange for recognizing Gervatix as King and giving him small territorial concessions on the frontier. Within a year, with the help of the Kantach Emperor Theodosius was able to largely contain Sekaris' rebellion to the area around Amorium. But it wasn't long before Gervatix continued to grow more belligerent in his demands from the Emperor, in addition to regular tribute, the King wanted the hand of the Emperor's daughter in marriage.

An enraged Theodosius refused, and when the Kantach once more began attacking Ezrian border towns, he readied his army and launched an invasion of Kantach lands. The attack ended in disaster however when the Imperial Army was overwhelmed by superior barbarian numbers and bogged down in the rough terrain of the Arexium borderlands. Theodosius was killed, the Empire plunged into chaos, and Sekaris' rebellion once again regained steam. Basil already reigning as co-emperor under his father, lead a savage attack on Sekaris at the Battle of Fosun and slew the rebel (parading his head on a spike). But the distraction had cost the Empire dearly, the Kantach horde's had rolled over the border and for the first time in centuries were nearing the capital. Only a stubborn defense by the garrison and the imposing fortress that dominated the city kept it from falling.

Hurriedly leading his exhausted army towards Lygos, Basil was able to take the Kantach / Suridian / Murdok force by surprise, appearing to their rear and effectively scattering the combined horde in a bloody battle. But the Ezrian army had been so bloodied by the period of civil war and barbarian invasions that it was in no shape to counterattack. The Ezrian troops retired to lick their wounds while Basil attempted to reform the military for a war he knew would come. He would get his chance in what historians would call the Barbarian War's, showing his trademark tenacity and willingness to use unconventional tactics to bring about victory such as the Battle of Epirus Plains. But only time will tell if he will accomplish his fathers dreams of a revitalized Ezrian Empire that can dominate the world once more.
